The Fish Trails Story
Meet the Advisory Committee
Ron Brunk
Ron is one of the founding fathers of biking in Whitefish, dating back to the fall of 1981 when he and his wife, Jan, toured Whitefish via bicycle and fell in love with the area. Months later, the Brunks relocated to Whitefish permanently. Ron has been instrumental in bringing about the Bike and Pedestrian Path. He serves on the Park Board and Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, positions he has held for the past eight years. He enjoys biking of all sorts: road, mountain and especially bike rides with Jan on their tandem bicycle.
Bruce Boody
Bruce has been working on the creation of the Bike and Pedestrian path since 1987. His top priority is safe routes for kids from all neighborhoods to schools, parks and recreation areas. He is an advisor to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee who enjoys walking and running on the current paths. Bruce looks forward to using an interconnected system in Whitefish. Bruce is a landscape architect in Whitefish.
Linda Hunt
Linda would like to see the Bike and Pedestrian path add to the health of Whitefish. Using the European model as a blueprint for success, she hopes that the trails will allow people to become accustomed to walking and riding, thereby improving health and decreasing pollution. Linda is serving her second term on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee. She is the Director of Training for the Health, Education and Opportunity program at FVCC.
Don Spivey
Don retired to Whitefish 15 years ago and has been road and mountain biking with his wife Judy for “many, many years”. Although he favors long weekend rides on local logging roads, his top priority is to link Whitefish Lake to the Riverside Sports Complex along U.S. 93 as well as linking trails to Cow Creek and the schools. He considers bicycling a great alternative form of transportation and terrific exercise for all ages. Don is also a member of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee.
Dan Keyes
Dan is the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Whitefish and in this capacity attends all of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee and Park Board meetings. Dan’s top priority for biking in Whitefish is the creation of an alternative mode of transportation so that people can get from point A to point B in Whitefish without risking life and limb. He hopes that with rising fuel prices, biking will become a viable means of transportation. Dan has been biking since he was a kid and enjoys mountain biking, road biking and multiple day trips with his new camping trailer.
Chad Wold
Chad is a member of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee. He looks forward to many continued miles of trail for Whitefish. Chad is an attorney in Kalispell.
Christine Hensleigh
Christine’s goal is to create a safe system of trails throughout Whitefish that her son Wyatt can enjoy. She enjoys walking and jogging throughout Whitefish, particularly along the river, and hopes someday to see trails link to Happy Valley, Columbia Falls and throughout Flathead County. She is a former reporter and editor of the Whitefish Pilot.
The Fish Trails Committee also relies on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee members: Doug Adams, Mike Fitzgerald, Peter Elespuru, Chad Wold, Don Spivey, Linda Hunt and Ron Brunk.
The Fish Trails Advisory Committee is currently reviewing nominations for more members, so stay tuned!
